Westminster Launches New ADA-accessible Website

The City is excited to launch a new and improved website for the community on Tuesday, March 18. WestminsterCo.gov is now ADA-accessible, mobile-friendly, and organized and designed with a resident-first focus. The new website has 62 percent fewer pages and was reorganized through a resident’s lens. The previous website was organized around the City’s department structure, which was difficult to navigate. New features and modifications follow best practices for government communications and meet state and federal accessibility guidelines.

Ahead of the launch, City staff engaged a focused group of residents and power users. While feedback was positive and highlighted the new site’s ease of use and organization, City staff incorporated several site-wide changes based on resident feedback, including moving the calendar feature to the middle of the homepage, to ensure we met the needs of our community and delivered a high-quality user experience.

As part of the new website, the City’s digital news hub, Westy.news, will also be ADA-accessible and mobile friendly with enriched multimedia features including more videos and photojournalism content. The Westy is organized around areas of interest for our community including news, family, feature stories, history, lifestyle, neighborly advice, and outdoors.

WestminsterCo.gov is part of a comprehensive City initiative to invest and improve its digital engagement with our community. The City also recently unveiled Access Westminster 2.0, our service request portal, for residents and businesses. Residents can now more easily submit service requests through their mobile devices, provide photos directly from their phones, and geolocate the service request in one easy tool.

The City will continuously improve the website for residents over time with new tools, and a governance committee to ensure content is updated and accurate. The City will introduce a new community engagement portal that will provide residents with another tool to share feedback and engage City leadership later this year.
